New health department data shows where coronavirus rate is highest in Whatcom County

That’s because the virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily by respiratory droplets.  Given the way it is spread, there are only a few things that can slow it:

  • Physical distancing – staying at least six feet away from others;
  • Isolating and quarantining people who are sick or were in close contact with people who were sick;
  • Washing hands frequently and avoiding touching one’s face;
  • Frequently sanitizing surfaces and objects that others touch; and
  • When in shared or public spaces, wearing a face covering.

Face coverings are not a substitute to replace the other ways to reduce transmission.

Birch Bay Drive & Pedestrian Facility Project

Project Updates – Construction Schedule:
*4-1 UPDATE

Due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic and changing limitations put in place to keep the community safe, the current construction schedule may frequently change to accommodate a safe work environment and community.

It is the Contractor and Whatcom County’s intent to finish the following work before the suspension of work at the end of May:

·         1.  Drainage improvements and concrete work immediately adjacent to the Bay Breeze Restaurant.

·         2.  From Bay Breeze Restaurant to Lora Lane including installation of swale overflow structures, path access points, and gravel paving along the path.

Traffic impacts are likely to include some single lane and shoulder closures. Wait times for lane closures should be less than 5 minutes.

The web will likely not be updated again until the suspension of work begins at the end of May.

The web updates are subject to frequent changes due to contractor scheduling changes.

  1. Pat, as always, you’ve given us a great review of what’s happening around the bay. Thank you!
    The berm section of this issue is uncharacteristically spattered with typos and missing words that, as a caring neighbor and compulsive wordsmith, I’m confident you would like to remedy.
